Sokoto NUJ correspondents’ chapel boycotts state government activities

The Sokoto state Nigeria Union of Journalists Correspondents’ Chapel has boycotted all government activities until further notice.

The decision which was unanimously endorsed by members at a congress meeting held on Saturday was sequel to harassment and molestation of it’s members at the Government House, Sokoto on Friday 12/02/2021 by Security Personnel.

In a released jointly signed and issued by the Chairman , Habibu Harisu of the News Agency of Nigeria and Secretary , Ankeli Emmanuel of The Leadership Newspapers also barred its members from using Press Releases from Government, Group, Insividuals, Organisations and Politicians who deem it fit not to invite them for coverage of their functions.

The release reads in part” members of the Sokoto NUJ Correspondents Chapel have in the light of the prevailing reasons , unanimously resolved to boycott all Government activities in the state.

” The unanimous decision was take after an extra ordinary Congress held on Saturday 13/2/2021.”

The Chapel hitherto added ” we condemned in strong terms, the unwarranted attitude of Security Agents at the Government House for threatening lives of harmless Journalists who are out to do their primary duties”, while calling on Heads of Security Agencies in the State to sensitize their personnel on Media/Security relationship accordingly
