The Sokoto state police command headquarters says investigation on alleged abduction of five minors including less than 2 weeks old baby girl by two suspects has commenced.
The victims of the abduction include three toddlers under the age of two, and a five-year-old named Asmau Ya’u.
Asma’u was said to have been abducted by the suspects while on her way to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto.
The disclosure by the command followed the arrest of one ASP Kulu and her accomplice , one Elizabeth by the FCT police command for allegedly abducting five children, including a less than two- week-old -baby girl from Sokoto State.
Explaining the arrest of the suspects , ASP Rufa’i Abubakar , spokesperson of the state command said both the suspects and victims had been handed over to the Sokoto state command by the FCT command for further investigation accordingly.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspects were arrested while travelling from Sokoto to Abuja in an 18 seater commercial bus when some passengers alerted the police near Abuja.
” This is after they noticed that the custodians of the children couldn’ t breastfeed the children while on the seven hours hectic journey from Sokoto to Abuja.”
Meanwhile , an official of the Sokoto state Human Rights Network , Sirajo Madawaki said the case had been transfered to the network office in the state and investigation has since commenced.
Madawaki continue: ” The network will follow the case to logical conclusion and ensure that the suspect were prosecuted and the children reunited with their respective parents.”
However, before her trip to Sokoto, ASP Kulu who is said to be serving with the Kubwa police Division, had earlier applied for leave and was not granted.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh also confirmed that investigations were on the matter was ongoing.
