The Sokoto state government has approved an additional N950 million to enable the completion of the state Independent Power Plant with 35 mega watts generation capacity.
The project which suffered set back for years without completion was initiated by then administration of Governor Aliyu Wamakko with a view to boost electricity supply inorder to meet the demand of residents.
Similarly, a contract for the renovation of the caliphate History and Culture Bureau , had been awarded at N222 million for completion in 6 months.
The facility houses artifacts and relevant historical and cultural monuments that defines the bounded heritage of the caliphate.
The approvals among others were given on Wednesday following the weekly state executive council meeting chaired by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the council meeting which also considered many other memos bordering on developmental issues , Bello Sambo Danchadi , Commissioner for Information said the contractor handling the project had been mobilised to ensure completion within the shortest possible time accordingly.
Similarly, Danchadi disclosed that the council had approved a medium term expenditure framework for onward submission to the state assembly based on projections and computations of experts for passage .
” The framework will span 3 years from 2025 to 2027 as practiced world wide which the state ministry of Budget and Economic planning is coordinating “, he said.
Also, contracts for the construction of additional blocks of hostels at SSCOE and Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic had been approved at the cost of N279m and N192 m respectively.
” Six blocks of male and female hostel at SSCOE and 3 blocks at UASP respectively “, he explained.
Danchadi also disclosed that 2 additional vehicles were approved for procurement to serve the Abuja office of the deputy governor as he announced the approval of N203 million for the repairs of borehole pumping machines and water reticulation components to boost the utility supply to residents.
Also, approved for rehabilitation according to the state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Barrister Nasiru Aliyu Dantsoho are the connecting road network at the Sultan Maccido Institute for Qur’anic and General Studies at the cost of N1.4bn in addition to other metropolitan roads including Zurmi, Kalambaina – Bodinga road roundabout and Gobir -Argungu at N2.46bn and N1.075bn respectively.
” Also, 3 roundabouts along Kara road market , Agaie road Junction and Sama road off Kaduna road will separately gulp N475m, 678m and N689m”, he mentioned.
Accordingly, the Religious Affairs Commissioner, Jabir Sani Maihula said 6 juma’at mosques had been approved for renovation at Shagari, Kebbe and Wamakko towns including an Islamiyya school with mosque attached all at the cost of over N511 million.
Maihula explained that it was in fulfilment of the governor Aliyu Sokoto led government priority to religious affairs.
