BARELY two months to the much awaited 2019 polls, the echo of lost of confidence in the Sokoto state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government has began to filter out with a
coalition of Sokoto State Students Associations throwing their weight of support behind the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
According to the coalition, their joint bid aims at moving Nigeria and Sokoto State to the next level of prosperity.
In the same vein, have passed a vote of no confidence on the incumbent state government for its lackadaisical handling of education-related issues, as well as the wasteful and non plausible declaration of State of Emergency on the education sector .
The development was contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Sokoto, Tuesday by Bashir Rabe Mani, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the Sarkin Yamman
The students’ leaders have also solidly endorsed the candidature of Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and Alhaji Faruku Malami Yabo, as the APC Gubernatorial Candidate and running mate, respectively .
The students’ leaders made the happy disclosure at the residence of Senator Wamakko, Sahabi Dange road, Sokoto, when they paid a solidarity visit to the lawmaker, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District.
They were drawn from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto State University, Shehu Shagari College of Education, State College of Legal Studies, Umar Ali Polytechnic, Sultan Abdulrahman School of Health Teachnology, Kogi State Students Association and representatives of students from Yabo Local Government ,among others .
Spokesman of the students’ leaders, Sani Aliyu Abubakar, President, SUG, Umar Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic,Sokoto, commended Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for his sustainable sponsorship of the education of thousands of indigenes of the state to various tertiary educational institutions, within and outside Nigeria .
They further described the declaration of emergency on education by the state government as a wasteful venture, while Senator Wamakko’s invaluable gestures are unparalleled and tangible.
Responding, Senator Wamakko lauded the Organization for the gesture, even as he assured APC has good plans for the nation’s youths .
The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, further averred that, the Senate would soon promulgate a law to bolster the participation of Nigerian youths in politics .
He however admonished the students to be rededicated to their studies, as well as steer clear of all social vices capable of truncating their studies .
” This is the only way you can realize your lofty dreams of becoming the true future leaders of Nigeria . “
The highlight of the epoch-making event was the presentation of some awards to Senator Wamakko by SUG of Sultan Abdulrahman School of Health Teachnology, Gwadabawa, and that of Umar Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto.
