SULTAN of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III yesterday reiterated his commitment and the sultanate council towards supporting the policies and programmes of government to ensure good governance, unity and stability in Sokoto state and Nigeria.
Sultan Sa’ad who spoke at the turbaning ceremony of the newly appointed Wazirin Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu and four District Heads said the sultanate as a caliphate had always made it a responsibility to reflect the tenets and qualities of good governance, unity and stability for the peaceful coexistence of citizens.
He said the caliphate has been an instrumentally revered institution founded on unique norms and tradition of leadership and respect.
According to him” the tenet of the religion of Islam was fundamental in promoting the ideals and revered teachings of founding fathers of the caliphate”
He described the position of Waziri as vital in the running of affairs in the sultanate council, noting that the new Waziri have had a long standing years of experience as an advisory member to the council.
” He has been in the system since the last six years which he has perfected on his responsibilities.
” We will continue to maintain and drive the conventional tradition of the sultanate for the better”, he said.
Abubakar further pointed out that” every human being including those in leadership positions are subject to mistakes which can be corrected.”
While linking his remarks to speech earlier delivered by the of Emir of Gwandu, the reverred royal father noted that the latter’s remarks were more of a sermon and most vital and needed for the unity of the muslim ummah, adding that” muslims should imbibe and translate their unity into action as an important component of promoting the ideals of the religion.”
Abubakar further commended Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for his unequalled cooperation and support to the sultanate council in the realisation of its noble activities for the promotion of the institution.
” I will like to also express my heartfelt appreciations to those who have come to witness this reverred process and responsibility .”
However, the revered monarch in a brief and unique tradition, symbolised the presentation of a well prepared local delicacy”Fura” in a 1 litre plastic bottled container to the new Waziri to maintain the fraternity and cement the ties of their lineage.
Earlier, the Emir of Gwandu, Muhammad Bashar Iliyasu described the Sultan as a leader with foresight and wisdom in propelling the right atmosphere of leadership in the caliphate.
He urgewd him not to relent in projecting the image and contributions of the caliphate and its founding fathers in the spread of their ideals, pointing out that Nigeria was blessed in so many respects ‘ we have all the potentials to excell both in natural and human resource capital.
” We have to thank God for the endowments through repentance and good works for humanity”, he stated.
Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal represented by Secretary to the State Government, Professor, Bashir Garba, representatives of Emir of Zaria, Alhaji Dr Shehu Idris, Justice Usman Argungu, Senior, Councillors of Sultanate and Gwandu Emirate councils, state assembly lawmakers and executive council members,District Heads and top politicians including Alhaji Mahe Dange among numerous others witnessed the colourful event performed in the Banquet Hall of the sultanate council.
