Fredrick sustained a knee injury during a recent training session with his Belgian club, FC Dender.

According to sports writer and BBC Sport broadcaster Oluwashina Okeleji, the 20-year-old picked up the injury shortly after returning from Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers playoff.

Fredrick had featured in all matches during the playoff campaign, where the Super Eagles ultimately fell short of securing the Intercontinental playoff slot, losing out to DR Congo.

The young defender is expected to remain sidelined until after the conclusion of the AFCON tournament.

In anticipation of the squad change, Head coach Eric Chelle has reportedly already identified a replacement for Fredrick, and the updated Super Eagles squad list is expected to be announced shortly.
