Sokoto state Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has expressed concerns over attitude of some nurses rejecting postings to local government areas.
Tambuwal’s reaction to the unhealthy development came to bare on Wednesday in Sokoto while declaring open the State’s Council Quadrennial delegate conference of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives of Nigeria(NANNW).
The governor noted that the services of nurses were strategic and important to human life, hence should not be a matter of choosing where to serve by professionals even as he acknowledged to human health.
According to him” the cities are fast saturated by nurses than in local government areas where the larger part of health challenges are.
” Your services are no less for humanity at all circumstances and place you find yourselves”, he reminded them.
In the same vein, Tambuwal who was represented by the state Head of Service, Dr Buhari Bello Kware said his administration remain concerned about the welfare of nurses in the state service which he stressed ” is reflected in its readiness to improve their general welfare.”
He however, commended the professional efforts of Association’s Secretary General and Registrar, Comrade Farouk Abubakar Wurno whom he described a reformist in the nursing profession as well projecting the image of the state.
In his welcome address, Chairman of he State Council, Comrade Abubakar Shehucommended the association’s national body for influencing positive decisions that impacted in the smooth running of the professional organ while making reference to the smooth take off of a collegial system to further strengthen he nursing career.
” This has gone a long way to add value to the profession in so many respects”, Shehu said.
Meanwhile, goodwill messages from Labour and Productivity Ministry, NLC MHWUN and NMA were delivered by respective representatives before declaring open the conference at the Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytexhnic Sokoto auditorium hall witnessed by the representative of the Sultan and Sarkin Sudan of Wurno, Alhaji Kabiru Chigari among other dignitaries.
