Following the gale of defections dwarfing the numerical strength of opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) elected governors in recent time, its Sokoto state chapter says Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal will not dump the party for APC.
According to the party ” Tambuwal will remain in PDP despite the defections by some of the party’s governors”
The party reiterated through its state Secretary, Hon. Abubakar Zaki Bashire in reaction to Governor Bello Mutawalle of Zamfara state defection to APC.
He noted that Governor Mutawalle has the constitutional right to defect to any party of his choice while pointing out that in politics the mass defection of political followers raises more alarm than the decamping of a political figure.
The party Scribe stressed that no pressure, threat or intimidation would influence Tambuwal to move out of PDP to opposition APC or any other political platform.
He said PDP has carved a niche for itself with a rich, comprehensive and acceptable manifesto that complied with the provisions of the Nigerian constitution.
” No doubt in saying that our manifesto
has the best and stronger constitutional ingredients with formidable provisions compared with those of other parties.
Hitherto, Bashire while distancing the party from any rumour alleging Tambuwal’s defection added” we are not aware of any move by the governor or any party stalwart decamping to any opposition party in the state. “
Making reflections on unexpected outcome of elections, the party Scribe cited an example on how the PDP won the recent bye-election held in Zaria town of Kaduna State, a strong hold of APC’ Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
However, Bashire further noted with optimism that PDP remain a party to beat in 2023, stressing that the party will continue to strengthen its agenda towards unseating the APC in the forthcoming presidential elections.
