The Guardian correspondent in Sokoto, Meya dies

The Guardian Newspaper  correspondent in Sokoto state, Mr Eric Meya is dead.

Meya passed on Wednesday evening  at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto after a brief illness according to a statement issued by the state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ).

Mourning Meya’s demise while expressing regret on behalf of the Council, the Chairman,  Isa Abubakar Shuni in the statement signed by the Council Secretary , Abubakar Auwal Imam, described the death as a monumental loss to the profession and  entire practicing journalists in the state.

“We lost a committed, hardworking and very jovial member who is not afraid of calling a spade, a spade no matter whose ox is gored. May his soul rest on,” he said

His burial arrangement will be announced later by his family
