THE the translation of the scholarly and literary works of the founding fathers of the Sokoto caliphate has received a boost with Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko assuring of a holistic commitment to sustain the feat bequeath the caliphate.
Wamakko stated that, himself and four other individuals will sponsor the publication of seven outstanding translated books that are yet to be published.
Wamakko’s remarks was contained in a statement issued to reporters Monday in Sokoto by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani.
He said,” the four individuals who will each publish a book are : Alhaji Muhammadu Bello Sifawa, Alhaji Bello Abubakar Wamakko, Alhaji Ibrahim Achida and Alhaji Aminu Abubakar Dankure.
” I will personally sponsor the publication of the three remaining books and this is part of our sustained contributions to this noble course. ”
According to the APC Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, the works of the founding fathers were key and instrumental ingredients for moral, intellectual and leadership roles for good governance and societal development.
” They are knowledge driven and assets to humanity in many respects which should be supported and spread across the world for all and especially educational institutions”, he said.
Senator Wamakko who made the disclosures Sunday when he inaugurated the 21-member Consultative Committee of the Centre For Intellectual Services of Sokoto Caliphate was further quoted as explaining that, such commendable invaluable and legendary literary works had covered various aspects of human lives, including health, security, economy, arithmetic and governance, among others.
However, the statement said Senator Wamakko, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education is the Chairman of the Consultative Committee.
Similarly, the Marafan Hausa further recalled that, he set up a similar committee thirty one years ago when he was the Chairman of the defunct Sokoto Local Government.
According to him, the committee had also then translated and published various books written by the founding fathers of the Sokoto Caliphate.
” More of such works would be translated and published, as well as uploaded into the information superhighway, the internet.
” This is to sustain the current efforts of globally propagating the commendable literary works of the founding fathers of the Caliphate.”
Senator Wamakko expressed happiness that, the committee comprises renowned Islamic clerics, academics and business moguls, while it is privileged to have the new Wazirin Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaid as its member.
The immediate past Governor of Sokoto state also said the committee would further be expanded to include other renowned personalities from across Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Ghana republics while soliciting the support of all the stakeholders, saying that, propagating the works of the founding fathers of Sokoto Caliphate is a collective responsibility.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Central Working Committee of the centre, Dr Hamza Alhaji Sulaiman, said that, the centre which was founded in 2003, had been fully registered by the federal government.
Accordingly, Suleiman commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III and Senator Wamakko, for their sustained support to the centre.
