Tyre Burst Triggers Fatal Crash Involving Boxer Anthony Joshuah Near Sagamu

Sagamu, Dec. 29, 2025 — A fatal road crash involving a Lexus SUV reportedly conveying world-renowned boxer Anthony Joshuah and a stationary Sinotruk trailer occurred on Sunday afternoon along the Lagos-bound carriageway near Sagamu.

The accident, which happened around midday at the frontage of a company identified as Snoma, was said to have been caused by a tyre burst on the Lexus jeep, leading to a loss of control before it rammed into the rear of the stationary trailer.

An eyewitness told reporters that the Lexus SUV, with registration number KRD 850 HN, was en route to Lagos when its front tyre burst, forcing the vehicle into the truck, which reportedly had no visible registration number.

Four persons were involved in the crash. Two adult males were confirmed dead at the scene and their remains were evacuated to the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu, a private mortuary. The identities of the deceased were not immediately disclosed.

Anthony Joshuah and the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries and were rescued by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) attached to his convoy. They were taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.

Traffic officials confirmed that the damaged Lexus SUV had been moved to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Department (MTD) office for further investigation. As of the time of filing this report, the Sinotruk trailer could not be towed and the accident scene had been cordoned off to control traffic and prevent further incidents.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
