The Delta State Governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa on Tuesday presented staff of office to the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo kingdom, HRM. (Prof.) Oghenero Paul Okumagba.
The Deputy governor Barr, Burutu kingsley Otuaro who represented the Executive Governor told the monarch to uphold the customs and traditions of the people of Okere-Urhobo of Warri.
Governor Okowa also said the monarch should be fair and just in dealing with his subjects.
Governor Okowa gave the charge shortly after presenting a “Staff of Office” to the monarch.
Governor Okowa who was represented by his Deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro said,”I want to appeal to the Orosuen. Discharge your responsibilities by being fair and just to all your subjects.
He expressed the belief that the monarch will deploy his academic advantage to the benefit of the Okere-Urhobo people.
While noting the “multi ethnicity” in Warri metropolis, the governor also tasked the monarch to live in peace with its neighbours from Itsekiri and Ijaws at all times.
Governor Okowa congratulated the Orosuen on his ascension to the prestigious throne of his ancestors.
Governor Okowa urged the people of Okere-Urhobo kingdom to support the king and help him succeed.
He noted that there are dissenting voices within the Okere-Urhobo Kingdom.
He said,”I call on every son or daughter to put their differences aside and work with the Orosuen for the peace and development of the Kingdom.”
Governor Okowa promised that the construction of major roads within Okere-Urhobo will be channeled to the appropriate Government Agencies for speedy work.
Earlier in a remark presented by the Otota of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Chief Wilson Eboh assured the Governor that the reign of the Orosuen will be peaceful so as to bring the needed development to its people.
“We also wish to make it abundantly clear that our Royal Majesty is very prepared to live in peace with all our neighbours.
Chief Eboh appealed to the Governor thus, “consider to construct the Ejemudarho off Okumagba Avenue, where our Orosuen’s Palace is situated, Apala road linking Giwa-Amu road, Giwa-Amu road linking Okere-Ugborikoko road and Airport road , Enughe street linking both Apala road and okere-ugborikoko road, Maduku, Frank Alehmen and Osamede streets linking Ojabugbe road, Warri.”
The presentation of the Staff of Office to the current Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom is coming seven years after the demise of its late king, HRM. Benjamin Okumagba, Okumagba I.
