Following the recent withdrawal of 11,566 policemen from VIP escort and orderly duties, prominent Nigerians are now reportedly planning to apply to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for alternative security personnel.

The massive redeployment of police officers was ordered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of an aggressive push to redirect overstretched security manpower towards escalating nationwide threats. These threats include the severe spike in kidnappings witnessed across Kwara, Kebbi, Niger, and other Northern states.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun clarified the directive. He stated that the recall of police officers from VIP duties was “neither punitive nor political,” but was specifically designed to refocus policing efforts on communities and states ravaged by violent crime.
