The Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council has called for the immediate boycott of state government activities following the continous intimidation and harassment of its members by security personnel attached to the Government House, Gusau on the orders from top government officials.

The members during an emergency meeting also resolved that all press releases and statements emanating from government officials should not be treated or sent for publication by the members.

In a statement issued to the members, signed by the chapel chairman, Comrade Umar Mohammed Maradun, ” members of the correspondents chapel were tired of the continuous harassment and intimidations of it’s members by the overzealous security operatives attached to the governor “

“We will continue to boycott all government activities until the issue is resolved” said the chairman “.

Comrade Maradun who described journalists as partners in progress wondered why they should be barred from attending functions, calling on Governor Bello Mutawalle Maradun to address the issue by calling the security men to order so as to provide enabling environment for the working journalists in the state.
