SOKOTO, Northwest Nigeria. Not to compromise its responsibility of ensuring peaceful electioneering campaign activities in the state, Sokoto state government has warned that it will not tolerate any form of harassment and intimidation by any political party in the state.
It maintained that nothing will deter the ruling PDP in the state from conducting its political activities, just as it said ” we will not succumb to those banking on federal power advantage to create fears in our supporters and party.”
The state Deputy Governor Hon. Maniru Muhammad Dan’iya (Sardaunan Kware) who dished out the stern warning according to a statement by his Director Press Affairs, Aminu Abdullahi Abubakar at the formal inauguration of the state PDP main contact and mobilisation committee, stressed that it was the sole responsibility of the state government to protect lives and property of its subjects at all times.
According to Dan Iya, people of Sokoto State were known to be peaceful and law-abiding and would remain so before, during and after the 2019 general elections.
” PDP in Sokoto would not fold its arms and allow some people claiming Federal Government backing to continue to harass and intimidate its supporters just to create fear in them for political advantage.
“ As we remain law abiding citizens of the nation, any form of Intimidation and harassment in the name of politics using elements in Federal Govement agencies will be resisted as the Nigerian Law enshrines.
“We call on all our PDP Supporters in Sokoto to remain calm as all legal options are being pursued to see the to the release of PDP members that were unlawfully arrested”, pointed out
He applauded the sense and spirit of resilience displayed by his Boss(Tambuwal) whom he described as a true and passionate leader who enjoins peaceful resolution of all matters under the law rather than confrontation.
” Governor Tambuwal has always asked the PDP in Sokoto to use any means within the confines of the Law to safeguard the integrity and wellbeing of its members in the State”, he said.
He further urged people in the State to rally round the Sokoto State Government in its efforts to maintain peace and tranquillity in order to safeguard their children from politicians who are hell bent on using them as political thugs as general elections draw nearer.
However, inaugurated at the Presidential Lodge, Sokoto has as its main Chairman, Alhaji Dr Ummarun Kwabo A.A.
In the same vein, Dan Iya inaugurated a three-man sub- Contact and Mobilization Committee for each of the three senatorial zones in the state which include, the Deputy Governor for Sokoto Central, Hon. Commissioner of Works Alhaji Usman Sulaiman (Dan Madamin Isa) Eastern Zone and Hon. Abubakar Dan Lawal for the Western Zone respectively.
