2023: Sokoto receives 3,991 BVAS , distributes PVCs -INEC

Ahead of the 2023 general elections , the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) , Sokoto office says it has received no fewer than 3,991 units of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System(BVAS).

Similarly, it disclosed that it is in full control of the wheel of progress of the 2023 elections.

” The Commission is well prepared to conduct the 2023 general elections.The preparation will take the Commission up to the day of Elections and beyond.”

Confirming the developments in readiness of the commission towards the elections, Mrs Hausa Aliyu , Administrative Secretary of INEC in Sokoto said on Monday during a stakeholders meeting that the BVAS would be configured and assigned to each polling unit across the 244 wards of the 23 LGs in the state.

In attendance at the meeting were representatives of all political parties in the state, NOA, CSOs, PLWD and Special Needs, Students, IPAC, the police, DSS, Army and paramilitary agencies.

According to her, already technicians we’re currently undergoing training on how to operate the equipment for use during the elections exercise.

Aliyu further disclosed that no fewer than 123,963 uncollected PVCs were in the commission’s custody adding that ” 148, 446 have been despatched to LGAs for distribution to respective owners.”

The Administrative Secretary further explained that within the period under review , the commission had conducted successful party primaries that saw the emergence of candidates for the 2023 polls.

Meanwhile, the state Chairman of the Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations, Ibrahim Abdullahi Shuni expressed fears over the possibility of votes buying on elections day by political parties.

” The issue of vote buying during Elections is disturbing especially among the two major political parties in the state “, he stressed while urging the Commission to note.
