43rd KADCIMA trade fair to promote blue economy – DG

The Director-General of the Kaduna Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (KADCIMA), Mr Usman Saulawa, said the 43rd Kaduna International Trade Fair would promote blue economy in the state.

The DG said this in an interview with newsmen, on Friday in Kaduna.

According to report the trade fair which commenced on Feb. 25 and would end by March 6.

He said the fair-themed: “Restrategising Nigeria’s Economy for Global Competitiveness’’ was chosen to commend government’s effort towards promoting agricultural and industrial development for the socio-economic transformation of the nation.

According to him, the blue economy is one of the things the state government will use to promote jobs and economic growth in the state.

Saulawa described blue economy as the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihood and jobs as well as the preservation of the ocean ecosystem.

“The blue economy has diverse component, including established traditional ocean industries such as fisheries, tourism, and maritime transport.

“Also new and emerging activities such as offshore renewable energy, aquaculture, seabed extractive activities, and marine biotechnology and bio prospective.

“It is an economy based on circularity, collaboration, resilience, opportunity and interdependence,” he said.

Saulawa added that the blue economy is not just about market opportunities, it also provides protection and development for more intangible ‘blue’ resources.

He further said that a blue economy provides efficient path to economy growth and development design to enhance livelihood for the poor, create employment opportunities and reduce poverty.

The DG stated that the trade fair is expected to be moderate and impactful as different activities are being lined out.

“Some of the activities includes; seminars, business round table on blue economy, quiz competition for secondary school students in northern states,” he said.
