NSCDC Operatives Kill Suspected Kidnapper, Arrest Two in Oyo Raid

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and arrested two others following a gun battle in Iseyin.
The operation, carried out by the NSCDC’s Agro-Rangers unit, took place in the early hours of Tuesday, May 5, 2026, after security personnel responded to a distress call from residents in the Sawmill area of Iseyin.
According to a statement released by the Oyo State Command, the Agro-Rangers were the first to arrive at the scene, where they encountered a group of five armed suspects. The suspects reportedly opened fire on the operatives, prompting a gun duel that lasted several minutes.
The NSCDC said its personnel responded in line with operational protocols, leading to the death of one suspect at the scene and the arrest of two others. Two additional suspects escaped into nearby forest areas, allegedly with gunshot wounds. A joint manhunt involving the NSCDC, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Amotekun Corps is currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Security officials confirmed that no NSCDC personnel were injured during the operation.
Items recovered from the suspects include a cartridge gun with live and spent ammunition, two cutlasses, a metal rod, and charms believed to be used for criminal activities.
The arrested suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the police in Iseyin for further investigation and possible prosecution. The body of the deceased suspect has been deposited in a mortuary.
State Commandant Augustine Padonu commended the Agro-Rangers for their swift response and professionalism. He reiterated that the deployment of Agro-Rangers across parts of Oyo State is part of broader efforts to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety.
Padonu also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, emphasising that maintaining security is a shared responsibility.
