Federal Government Declares Two-Day Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Adha

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha festivities.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Monday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

The statement noted that the two-day holiday underscores the government’s respect for the Islamic faith and the deep spiritual importance of the occasion to millions of Muslims both locally and globally.

Extending his congratulations to the Muslim faithful at home and abroad, the minister highlighted Eid-ul-Adha as a celebration grounded in sacrifice, divine obedience, and humanitarian compassion.

Tunji-Ojo further encouraged all citizens to dedicate the holiday period to praying for the nation, while actively backing initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable peace, security, and economic progress across Nigeria.
