Dr. Paul Enenche, Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, has sparked widespread debate after openly criticizing Afrobeats, claiming that the genre lacks lyrical depth and promotes harmful habits among young people.

Speaking during the church’s Mid-Year Worship Concert at The Glory Dome in Abuja, the cleric alleged that many Afrobeats artists sing “rubbish” and “garbage” while glorifying drug use and reckless living.
He warned that constant exposure to explicit lyrics corrupts character, values, and language in the younger generation.
To counter the secular genre’s influence, Dr. Enenche urged gospel musicians—including urban music minister Prinx Emmanuel—to produce more vibrant, youth-centric, and message-driven music.
He also announced an upcoming “Youth Fire Night” scheduled for September 25, aimed at offering young people wholesome spiritual alternatives that promote discipline and sound decision-making.
