AA Denies Leadership Change, Reaffirms Omoaje as National Chairman

The Action Alliance (AA) has dismissed claims of a leadership change within the party, reaffirming Aare Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as its National Chairman.

In a statement signed by Omoaje and made available to the media in Kaduna, the party described the rumors of a leadership shake-up, allegedly circulated by Kenneth Udeze, as baseless and misleading. The statement emphasized that Udeze is not a member of the party, having been expelled.

The party clarified that a recent Supreme Court ruling has no bearing on the authentic leadership of AA. It reaffirmed that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), State Executive Committees (SECs), Local Government executives, and Ward representatives remain under Omoaje’s leadership.

The statement cited multiple court rulings, including the Federal High Court in Abeokuta (Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/120/2022), the Court of Appeal in Abuja (Appeal No. CA/IB/378/2022), and the Supreme Court ruling delivered on May 14, 2024, by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba. These rulings affirmed the lower court’s decisions, confirming Udeze’s expulsion from the party.

Furthermore, the party questioned why Omoaje’s name was absent from the case, raising doubts about Udeze’s legal maneuvering. It also pointed out irregularities in the Edo State gubernatorial election dispute, where two different candidates were involved in a court case without proper party representation.

The statement reaffirmed that AA’s leadership remains intact, with Omoaje duly elected as National Chairman during a congress monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, on October 7, 2023.

The party urged members and the public to disregard false narratives meant to create division. It also called on the media to verify facts before reporting, warning against the spread of misinformation.

AA further alleged that the legal proceedings celebrated by Udeze and his associates were conducted without INEC’s knowledge. The statement asserted that INEC was not served any court documents until shortly before the chamber ruling was announced.

The party concluded by stating that the appeal in question was dismissed for “want of prosecution” and vowed to continue pursuing legal and political measures to uphold truth and ensure that the will of its members prevails.
