Abuja 2018‎: Sokoto contingents record 5 bronze medals in 4 events, accorded warm reception by deputy Governor

After successfully participating with no fewer than five bronze medals to its credit at the just concluded 2018 National Sports Festival, the Sokoto state contingents to the epoch events got a warm reception amidst congratulations from the state government.
The contingents won their medals in 4 events; Yungu Shu, Langa-Ruwa, Wrestling 85kg and kick boxing to bring glory to the state.
Standing in for Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal while receiving the contingents, the state Deputy Governor, Maniru Dan Iya‎ expressed Tambuwal’s joy over the state’s contingents efforts’ at the event by exhibiting courage and resilience to make Sokoto shine at the fiesta.
The 19th edition of the events tagged “Abuja 2018” witnessed dramatic record setting by athletes who featured in various events including those from the state.
According to Dan Iya, the heroic efforts by the state contingents to the fiesta was a demonstration of their willingness to take the state to the sports national arena.
” This year’s contingent have proved that the State Government’s sports development effort is yielding results”, assuring that Tambuwal’s administration was making all the necessary arrangements to have a befitting stadium and indoor sports hall of international standard in Sokoto soon. 
Dan Iya however was quoted as saying ” Tambuwal is praising all the bronze medalists for bringing glory back to Sokoto, and warmly congratulate other Athletes who competed through to the Quarter finals and Semi finals in other events.
” I therefore, urge you to also feel honoured as this will make you stronger to bring the best out of you in subsequent fiesta.”
Tambuwal also thanked the coaching crew for their resilience and dedication to earn the glory, noting that preparations to the fiesta started late. 
Accordingly, the Governor urged youths in the state to embrace sporting activities as veritable tool and means of business, unity and for attaining self actualisation status in life.
He assured that the state government was ready to see more of Sokoto’s international footballers as Abdullahi Shehu produced by the state
