CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced the massive payout on Saturday in Rabat, emphasizing the move to boost the tournament’s global prestige.

The increase is part of a broader, historic shift for African football; Motsepe also revealed that starting after 2028, AFCON will move from a biennial to a four-year cycle to better align with the global football calendar.

To fill the gap, CAF will launch an annual “African Nations League” in 2029, designed to ensure consistent high-level competition and increased commercial revenue for member nations. PUNCH
