Ambassador Haruna Ginsau has distinguished himself as a seasoned technocrat, accomplished diplomat, consummate administrator and dedicated political leader whose career has been defined by public service, institutional responsibility and a commitment to the development of his people.
Across several decades of service, Ginsau has built a reputation for taking on demanding assignments with diligence, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility. His career trajectory, spanning diplomacy, public administration and partisan politics, has placed him in several positions of considerable national importance.
As a member of Nigeria’s diplomatic corps, Ambassador Ginsau served the country in various foreign missions, including Senegal, the United Kingdom and Spain. He subsequently served as Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires to Spain and the Holy See before his appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Algeria and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic.
His diplomatic assignments provided opportunities to represent Nigeria’s interests abroad while contributing to the country’s international relations and diplomatic engagements.
At the state level, Ginsau also served as Commissioner for Lands and Regional Planning in Jigawa State from 1997 to 1999. In that capacity, he contributed to the administration of one of the state’s critical sectors, bringing his administrative experience and technical knowledge to bear on matters relating to land and regional development.
His public service career took another significant turn in September 2024, when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed him the pioneer Chairman of the Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC).
The appointment placed him at the helm of a newly established institution with a broad mandate to contribute to the development and reconstruction of the North-West geopolitical zone.
Ginsau’s experience in diplomacy and public administration subsequently found expression in partisan politics. In March 2026, he was elected National Financial Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a position that carries substantial responsibilities for the financial administration of the ruling party.
As National Financial Secretary, his responsibilities include overseeing the collection of party dues, levies, subscriptions and other monies owed to the party, with collected funds to be remitted to the National Treasurer in accordance with the party’s established procedures.
The position also requires the development and submission of proposals for generating additional party revenue for consideration by the National Working Committee, as well as the maintenance of accurate financial records and books for appropriate official scrutiny.
He also serves as an official co-signatory to the party’s bank accounts, underscoring the level of trust and responsibility attached to the office.
For his supporters, Ginsau’s appointment and election into positions of responsibility are a reflection of a long record of public service and experience. They argue that his background in diplomacy, administration and political organisation provides him with the institutional understanding required to manage sensitive responsibilities.
A defining feature of the profile presented by his admirers is his emphasis on probity, transparency, accountability, due process and respect for the rule of law.
Throughout his career, he has been associated with efforts aimed at improving administrative processes and strengthening service delivery. His supporters say his approach has consistently focused on making institutions more efficient, responsive and accountable to the people they are established to serve.
