Army chief, Yahaya says NA will sustain capacity building drive for operational performance

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Farouk Yahaya has said that the army will sustain its drive for capacity building for its officers and men to encourage competence and professionalism during operations, insisting that terrorists, bandits and kidnappers will have no hiding place.

” We are focused and determined to erase all these criminals and their activities”

Speaking Monday at the opening of the Second 2022 Regimental Staff Majors Convention at the 8 Division Headquarters , Giginya Barracks Sokoto , Yahaya said training remain key and one fundamental pillar of his policy drive to improve the operations of the army in view of the security challenges as well relations with citizens in the general environment.

He noted that RSMs were a pivotal segment of army personnel whom he described as bridge builders and custodians of discipline, respect and culture in the army hence must be kept updated with new techniques of further consolidating their performance.

However,the theme of the convention is ” Capacity Building for Regimental Sergeant Majors in the Nigerian Army for Enhanced Regimentation”

According to him ” the convention is crucial and apt to the army operations for effective and efficient performance. RSMs are vital ingredients and drivers to the NA.

” They are the custodians of NA customs and ethics and ensure commitment to the course of our operations in all engagements “, he stressed.

While hoping that all participants would fully take advantage of the convention to enhance operations , the COAS appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for extending support to and reposing confidence in the NA and other services as he commended Governor Tambuwal and the state government for the responsive cordially relations and untiring assistance to the army for allocating land for it’s forward operations.

Declaring the convention open , Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal described the initiative by the COAS as strategic noting that RSMs were an instrumental drivers in the NA set up and structure.

According to Tambuwal who was special guest of honour, ” apart from been bridge builders, RSMs are a formidable army personnel in achieving discipline and inculcating the army tradition in both commissioned and non commissioned officers.”

He stressed while acknowledging the strides by COAS in changing the narrative on army welfare and other basic aspects, said that ” the military regimental life cannot be realised without sergeant Majors.”

Earlier in his remarks, the GOC 8 Division army headquarters , Sokoto , Major General Uwem Bassey said RSMs were father’s of Regimentation who’s role remain pertinent in the NA operations hence the convention.

Bassey who also doubles as Commander, Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji JTF said the convention will help improve their various capacities on regimentation as their primary role as it concerns other soldiers.

” It will avail them of constructive discussions segment to further better their operations for optimum performance as well ready for assigned tasks or mission “

In his goodwill message, the Director Administration, army headquarters, Major General O.W.Ali commended the COAS for his foresight in driving the army on track of competence , professionalism and resilience while noting that the convention will further strengthen the spirit of participants towards responsive operational performance.
