JUST IN: INEC Recognizes Omoaje as the National Chairman of Action Alliance

Adekunle Rufai Omoaje, National Chairman of Action Alliance (AA)

The leadership crisis within the Action Alliance party has been resolved, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized Hon. Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as the national chairman of the party.

This recognition follows a ruling from the Federal High Court in Osogbo, which ordered INEC to acknowledge Omoaje and the other members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) elected at the national convention held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in October 2023.

In a judgment delivered last Tuesday by Justice Funmilola Demi-Ajayi, the court issued a seven-day ultimatum for INEC to recognize Omoaje as the national chairman and update its records accordingly.

In compliance with the court’s ruling, INEC has replaced the name of Kenneth Udeze, which had previously been listed on its portal, with that of Omoaje. As a result, the names of all NEC members elected at the Abeokuta convention are now reflected on the commission’s portal, demonstrating full adherence to the court’s decision.

Our correspondent checked the INEC portal and confirmed that Omoaje’s name was updated on Thursday.

Commenting on this development, Omoaje praised the new Chairman of INEC, Prof. Josh Amupitan, for his respect for the rule of law, stating that this decision will further strengthen democracy in the country. He assured that the party is committed to upholding democracy and the rule of law in all circumstances, emphasizing that this advancement will promote peace, progress, and development within the nation’s political landscape.
