The Civil Society Co-Chair of the Kaduna State Open Government Partnership (OGP), Mr. Mubarak Abdulganiyu, has reaffirmed Civil Society’s commitment to track transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in public infrastructure projects.

Speaking during a strategic follow-up engagement with key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (Kaduna Branch) and the Contractors’ Association, Mr. Mubarak, who was represented by Waniya Ilu, commended the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner of the Kaduna State Planning and Budget Commission for championing openness as a daily governance practice.

“This meeting builds on our earlier resolutions by bringing the engineering and contracting community fully into the conversation,” he said. “We are deepening awareness of the Construction Sector Transparency Initiative (CoST) and the Open Contracting Portal to ensure that information on public projects is not just available, but actively used to improve quality, ensure value for money, and strengthen public trust.”

He stressed that the construction sector is the backbone of Kaduna’s growth, noting that roads, schools, and hospitals are “not just projects, but lifelines” that must be delivered with efficiency and integrity.

The follow-up engagement comes after earlier OGP forums where stakeholders agreed to strengthen disclosure and monitoring of public works to curb waste and enhance service delivery. With CoST implementation underway, the focus now is on practical solutions and stronger partnerships between government, civil society, and the private sector.

“Through CoST, we have the opportunity to build not only infrastructure, but trust and better results for citizens,” Mr. Mubarak said, urging all parties to make the engagement count.
