A Magistrate Court in Kano has sentenced two TikTok users, Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa, to one year in prison or a fine of N100,000 each for posting videos deemed offensive to religious and moral values.
The duo, residents of Ladainai in Hotoro Quarters, were arrested by the Kano State Censorship Board and arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy and distributing illicit content on social media. Both pleaded guilty during court proceedings.
Presiding Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan handed down the sentences, urging the convicts to uphold good conduct. This case highlights ongoing efforts by Kano authorities to regulate online content in line with the state’s cultural and religious norms.
