Sokoto state governor,
Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto on Tuesday evening announced the extension of this year’s Ramadan feeding centres to the 244 wards and 27 centres for the physically challenged across the state with the distribution of N1.350bn financial assistance for centres.
He assured that his administration will will sustain and drive more social welfare programmes to assist the general public particularly the weak, needy and vulnerable in the state .
The governor’s announcement came with a call on those to be entrusted with the funds to understand is a trust put under their care.
” Also remember that the needy in our respective wards deserve good food and other essential commodities to break their fast.
” The task is given to you because of the strong confidence we have on you that you would be just and fair in handling the onerous assignment. Do all you can to justify the confidence.” Stressed.
Speaking at the flag -off of the disbursement in Government House, Sokoto , Governor Aliyu Sokoto said that society exist with different classes of citizens and some needed to be assisted at times like the Ramadan period which informed my government to further extend its gesture to the needy and vulnerable groups who may find it difficult to make ends meet due to their economic status.
” We therefore not only decided to restore but improve the Ramadan feeding programme initiated by former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko to ensure that our people live happily through our the Ramadan period.”
While also recalling that You may recall that a week ago , a committee for the Ramadan feeding centres was inaugurated and establishment 155 centres in the metropolis, the governor said under the expansion arrangement, each ward would receive N5 million for the provision of food and other essential items needed by muslim brothers and sisters for breaking of fast.
Accordingly, he explained that each of the 27 feeding centres for the physically challenged would each receive 5 million.
However, Aliyu Sokoto cautioned the committee on the need to fear God while discharging the assignment as they would be accountable before Him stressing that doing the right thing would earn His mercies , blessings, rewards and forgiveness .
He appealed to Muslims coming gir the break fast to remain orderly and calm with sense of maturity so that the exercise will be stress free while being served.
He said his government will not relent effort at initiating and exciting more meaningful human oriented projects in it drive to advancing the state as the governor acknowledged and thank people of the state for their resilience and support to the government hence, sought their fervent prayers for the peace and stability of the state and country during the Ramadan period .
