A former governor and Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state , Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has joined other Nigerians to mourn the passing of the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari saying Nigeria has lost a heroe but his legacy shall endure.
Wamakko in a statement he personally signed and issued to press on Sunday expressed shock and deep sorrow on the death of the Daura born former Nigeria’s President describing him as one of its most iconic and selfless leaders—an incorruptible patriot, a disciplined statesman, and a symbol of integrity who dedicated his entire life to the service of our nation with honour, courage, and unshakable commitment.
Buhari , a two times C-in-C as a military Head of State between 1984-1985 and a democratically elected President between 2015-2023 , died in a London clinic on Sunday at the age of 82.
The lawmaker said late former President Buhari stood tall as a beacon of hope, discipline, and forthrightness in national leadership noting that his unwavering resolve to tackle corruption, his passion for infrastructural rebirth, his investment in agricultural revival, and his strides in security sector reforms will remain etched in the annals of Nigeria’s national history.
“His impact reached every corner of Nigeria, especially the long-neglected northern region, where he championed projects that uplifted the lives of ordinary citizen.
” President Buhari governed with a rare blend of simplicity, sincerity, and steadfast vision.
” As a fellow patriot and public servant, I personally witnessed his commitment to building a better Nigeria—one anchored on integrity, discipline, and inclusivity. His modest lifestyle, even while in the highest office, was a moral lesson to all who hold or aspire to public office”, the lawmaker recalled.
Wamakko who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District also extended his condolences to late Buhari’s wife, Aisha Buhari, children and the entire Daura ,government and people of Katsina state and prayed Allah forgives his shortcomings, accept his noble deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
