The Sokoto state Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress has been directed by the State government to submit a proposal on the new minimum wage to effect implementation process accordingly.
The directive was issued Monday night by the state Deputy Governor, Ahmed Idris Gobir shortly after a meeting held with labour leaders in the state.
Sokoto is among the few states yet to announce the implementation of the N70,000 wage approved by the Federal Government.
Gobir who made the disclosure while responding to questions from reporters in Sokoto said it would facilitate the process of harmonisation for implementation of the minimum wage.
He assured that the state government was committed and willing to implement the approved minimum wage for its work force.
While speaking on the development, the state NLC chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Jungul enjoined civil servants to remain calm as all necessary arrangements were being made for the implementation of the new minimum wage.
He said that the union would within the earliest possible time, forward it proposed table as requested by the state government as he appreciated and acknowledged the genuine commitment of the state government to the implementation of the new salary scale for the state workforce a release by Garba Mohammed , Director of Press to the deputy governor quoted him as saying.
