The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued warnings to operators in Nigeria’s broadcast industry, ahead of the commencement of political campaigns for the 2023 general elections.
Speaking at a sensitization forum on political broadcasting in Abuja, the NBC Director-General, Balarabe Ilelah, warned against the use of hate speech during the campaign, stressing that the Commission would not hesitate to sanction any individual and organization that breaches the broadcasting codes and to shut down broadcast stations that violate such broadcast codes.
The ongoing forum on political broadcasting in Abuja is the conclusion of a sensitization exercise embarked on by the commission, ahead of the campaigns for the 2023 general elections.
The meeting in Abuja is being attended by heads of broadcast media organizations, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Nigeria Police Force.
