A statement Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, said the award was presented to Senator Wamakko in Abuja on Tuesday by the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, on behalf of the acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
According to the statement, Wamakko, a former Governor of Sokoto State was among several other recipients of the prestigious award by the agency presented
to them at a ceremony at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The award was bestowed on the Senator who is also the Chairman, Senate
Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, for his invaluable contributions to the fight against illicit drugs trafficking when he was the Governor of Sokoto State, between 2007 and 2015.
In his response, Senator Wamakko the statement said commended the agency for the honour, saying that, it will spur him to do more to tame the drugs menace in the state and Nigeria, in
general.
It could be recalled that the Senator constructed an ultra-modern,
multimillion naira rehabilitation centre for the State Command of the NDLEA, apart from other numerous logistics support.
