1. The Save Nigeria Movement has demanded an urgent retraction and apology from Governors Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state and Umar Ganduje of Kano State as well as a spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council Femi Fani-Kayode over what it called outrageous statements allegedly made by the trio against the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele over the Naira redesign policy.
The SNM in separate letters to the trio dated February 5, 2023 and signed by TD Sorkaa said it will not hesitate to drag them to court if such statements were not withdrawn within the next seven days. LEADERSHIP

2. Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila has said that the House of Representatives will reconvene before the general elections if the hardship being faced by Nigerians over the new redesigned Naira persists. Gbajabiamila said the House would continue to monitor the Central Bank of Nigeria’s implementation of the policy. DAILY TRUST

Nigerian singer Tems has won a Grammy Award on Sunday – becoming the first female artist from the country to win the prestigious award.Her compatriot Burna Boy lost in the two categories in which he was nominated. Tems won the award in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category for her contribution to the hit song Wait for U – a collaboration with musicians Future and Drake. BBC

4. Reigning champions Rivers United have suffered their first loss of the season after Doma United fought back to win 2-1 in the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League Week 6 match played at the Pantami stadium Gombe. Rivers United who were on a five-match unbeaten run drew the first blood when Ngweni Denis Ndasi put them ahead in the 25th minute but Musa Usman equalised for his side in the 34th minute for the first half to end 1-1. 5. Mali’s military government has given the head of the UN peacekeeping mission’s human rights division, 48 hours to leave the country. Government spokesman Guillaume Ngefa-Atondoko Andali said the UN Mission Head had committed subversive actions in his selection of witnesses to testify at UN Security Council briefings on Mali. BBC

6. Adams Oshiomhole has accused the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) of deceiving President Muhammadu Buhari over the redesign of the naira notes. Oshiomhole faulted the policy, describing it as senseless and a plot by the apex bank to scuttle the general elections. According to him, the bank sold an anti-corruption motive to the President which made him approve the policy. CHANNELS

7. A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked southeastern Turkey and northern Syria early Monday, toppling hundreds of buildings and killing more than 1,300 people. Hundreds were still believed to be trapped under rubble, and the toll was expected to rise as rescue workers searched mounds of wreckage in cities and towns across the area. DAILY TRUST

8. Manchester City have been charged by the Premier League with over 100 breaches of financial rules. This comes at the end of a four-year investigation. The Premier League, in a statement on Monday, alleged that the breaches came over nine seasons, from 2009 to 2018. DAILY POST

The Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB) has faulted claims that banks are hoarding the new naira notes but expressed optimism that the scarcity of the currency would end soonest. “ACAMB affirms without any equivocation that banks are not in any way hoarding or holding back naira notes or engaging in any act inimical to our avowed commitment to exciting customer experience,” ACAMB President Rasheed Bolarinwa said in a Sunday statement. 10. American singer-songwriter and actress Beyonce has become the most awarded artiste in the Grammy’s history. Beyonce took home four awards on Sunday night, the 5th of February, to become the most-awarded artiste with a total of 32 trophies. DAILY POST
