3. Students of the Taraba State University have expressed joy as the management banned the sale of handouts and textbooks by lecturers. The management, on Thursday, also announced a ban on the collection of unauthorised dues from the students. The announcement, contained in a circular, was made through the office of the school registrar and signed by Yakubu D Fwa, Deputy Registrar, Academics. 6. Presumed human remains have been discovered near the wreck of the Titan submarine. The US Coast Guard announced on Wednesday saying the remains will be brought back to the US and analyzed, part of the wider international investigation into what went wrong during the catastrophic voyage to the Titanic shipwreck earlier this month. Also, the first photos of the mangled submersible wreckage being recovered from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean have emerged. The dramatic images captured crews unloading pieces of the doomed sub off the Horizon Arctic ship onto dry land at the Canadian Coast Guard pier in St John’s, Newfoundland, on Wednesday – more than one week after it imploded around 13,000 feet underwater close to the wreckage of the Titanic, killing all five men on board. 7. UEFA has shortened the name of its third-tier competition from “Europa Conference League” to “Conference League” from the 2024-25 season, European football’s governing body said Wednesday. The 2024 and 2025 finals will be held in Athens and Wroclaw respectively, while Lisbon will host the 2025 Women’s Champions League final at Sporting’s Estadio Jose Alvalade. Popular comedian, Lawrence Oluwaseyitan Aletile, aka Seyi Law, has labelled those condemning the long motorcade that followed President Bola Tinubu when he arrived in Lagos from London a few days ago as “idiots”. He said there was no more appropriate way to ascertain that the critics were mentally ill than their display of “foolishness” by assuming all the cars were Tinubu’s motorcade. Zambian police have arrested former President Edgar Lungu’s son and daughter-in-law on charges of money laundering and possessing property believed to be proceeds of crime worth more than $5 million. Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga also disclosed that Dalitso Lungu and his wife, Matilda, have been arrested in their capacity as directors of Saloid Traders Limited. Hamoonga said they were accused of owning 69 motor vehicles and other properties believed to have been proceeds of crime in the country, according to VOA. Bayern Munich said Wednesday they had decided not to renew their sponsorship arrangement with Qatar Airways, which had long been controversial because of human rights concerns in the Gulf country. In a joint statement, both sides said the contract would end “by mutual agreement” on June 30 after a five-year partnership. Bayern’s new CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said the team and Qatar Airways “have worked together successfully and learned from each other”.
