Head coach Eric Chelle recently reduced his 54-man provisional list to a 28-man squad ahead of the tournament scheduled for later this month.
The announcement of the final list sparked criticism from some quarters, with claims that certain players were imposed on the coach by top officials of the NFF.
Reacting to the allegations, Gusau denied any interference, insisting that the squad selection was solely the decision of the technical crew.
He made the clarification while speaking with former Nigeria international Segun Odegbami during a programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, warning against what he described as unfounded accusations against the federation.
Gusau maintained that the NFF respects the independence of the coaching staff and remains committed to supporting the team’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations.
