The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted viral media reports claiming that the Super Eagles have been officially eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The federation clarified that it has received no formal communication from FIFA regarding the ongoing eligibility dispute involving DR Congo.
According to the NFF, the recent headlines declaring Nigeria’s campaign over were based on misattributed quotes from a November 2025 FIFA publication rather than a new or final ruling.
The NFF emphasized that FIFA protocols require direct notification to the involved national federations before any public disclosure of disciplinary or eligibility decisions.
This statement was issued to counter widespread breaking news reports that alleged FIFA had already confirmed DR Congo as Africa’s representative for the inter-confederation play-off tournament.
For now, the federation maintains that the case remains pending and urges the public to disregard unverified claims of a final verdict.
