Rivers State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Joachin Okafor, has urged 210 newly promoted senior officers within the command to be prepared to meet the demands of their new roles. Addressing officers at their decoration ceremony, Commandant Okafor highlighted that the promotion was both a responsibility and a call to higher service, underscoring that true promotion comes from God.
Okafor commended NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for addressing the backlog of promotions upon assuming office three years ago. He remarked that the era of delayed promotions had ended under Audi’s leadership, with prioritized officer welfare and career advancement. The new appointees, Okafor said, would be redeployed to units and departments based on professional merit to ensure effective service delivery across the command.
During the ceremony, Dr. Patrick Onogwu, Senior Manager of Security and Government Relations, applauded the Corps’ leadership, attributing its elite status among security agencies to proactive leadership and effective action plans. He commended Rivers Command officers for their steadfast commitment to protecting vital infrastructure, including the Trans Niger oil pipelines, urging the newly promoted officers to foster a non-toxic work environment to achieve operational efficiency.
Deputy Commandant Agbon Omo Ighalo, representing the promoted officers, expressed gratitude to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for supporting timely promotions and prioritizing personnel training. Ighalo assured the command that the officers were dedicated to honoring their new ranks with loyalty and service.
