PERL Facilitates Sectoral Analysis of 2022 Draft Budget by Accountability Mechanisms in Kaduna State

Partnership to Engage, Reform & Learn (PERL) on Thursday facilitated a programme to Support Citizens, CSOs, Academia and the Media to Analyze the Draft 2022 Budget and use findings to influence Kaduna State House of Assembly Public Hearing that will hold in the coming weeks.

Welcoming participants to the programme the State Team Lead of PERL, Abel Adejor, said the purpose of the programme was to bring all the various Accountability Mechanisms in the state together to analyze and use their expertise to help pull out the salient issues on a sectoral basis and crystalize the outcome for use during the Public Hearing being planned by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Joshua James, Civil Society Co-Chair, Open Budget

The Civil Society Co-Chair, Open Budget, Joshua James, in his opening remark stated that the objective of the programme includes to Facilitate sectoral analysis of the 2022 Draft Budget by the Accountability Mechanisms in Kaduna state, Harmonize and finalize the sectoral budget analysis; and generate next steps and strategies for budget advocacy to inform and influence the 2022 Draft Budget.

Some of the Accountability Mechanisms at the progamme include Kaduna state Basic Education Accountability Mechanism (KADBEAM), Local Government Accountability Mechanism (LGAM), Kaduna State Maternal Accountability Mechanism (KADMAM), Kaduna state Social Protection and Accountability Coalition (KADSPAC), Disability Community, Community Development Charter (CDC), Tax Justice Network, Open Government Partnership (OGP), the Academia and the Media.

Governor Nasir el-Rufai submitted a Draft 2022 Budget of ₦233,673,039,755.88 to the Kaduna state House of Assembly on October 11, 2022.
