TINUBU MOURNS IBADAN STAMPEDE VICTIMS, DEMANDS PROBE
President Bola Tinubu has mourned the victims of the tragic incident at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, which claimed innocent lives and left many others injured.
A day after the tragic incident, 35 minors have been confirmed dead in a stampede at a funfair held at Islamic High School, Orita Bashorun, the state capital.
The President in a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, extended his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State and, most importantly, to the grieving families who have lost their children in the unfortunate event. CULLED FROM CHANNELS
VANDALS ATTACK ABUJA TRANSMISSION LINE
Some parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have been plunged into darkness as vandals again destroyed the 330-kilovolt Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line.
The spokesperson of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday night.
According to her, the incident occurred at approximately 11:43 pm on Wednesday, 18th December, 2024, which led to the loss of supply by the line on the grid.
She added that the TCN patrol team dispatched to investigate the incident discovered that vandals had stolen part of the conductor between towers T216 and T218. CULLED FROM DAILY
NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL POSTPONED TILL MAY 2025
The much-anticipated National Sports Festival has again been postponed.
The festival, tagged, “Gateway Games, Ogun 2024” will now hold between May 16 and 30, 2025.
The postponement came less than a month before the commencement of the festival.
The reasons for the postponement were not stated in the communique, signed by the Chairman, Main Organising Committee, Adebukola Olopade. CULLED FROM PUNCH
INFLUENTIAL EX-DEFENCE MINISTER JAILED FOR CORRUPTION IN GUINEA
A court in Guinea has sentenced a former highly influential defence minister to five years in prison for corruption, illicit enrichment, embezzlement and money laundering.
Mohamed Diané served as defence minister between 2015 and 2021 under President Alpha Condé, before the army seized power.
He was also ordered to pay a $58.5m fine, and his bank accounts and property in the capital Conakry and the eastern city of Kankan will also be confiscated by the state.

Speaking on the sidelines of the pre-premiere dinner of Funke Akindele’s movie, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’, Mama G said she did odd jobs to cater for her family before fortune smiled on her.
