THE Sarkin Adar of Dundaye in Wamakko local government of Sokoto state, Alhaji Muhammadu Bello Yakubu yesterday performed the official turbaning of the Deputy Managing Director of the Sokoto state Media Corporation, Alhaji Labaran Lumo Dundaye as the ‘Sardaunan Dundaye’ with a pledge to continue to strengthen traditional leaders support to ensure the success of policies and programmes of government at all levels.
The newly turbanned ‘Sardauna Dundaye’ was one time chairman of the Sokoto state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists
Yakubu who spoke at his palace in Dundaye which was agog by well wishers and friends of Labaran Dundaye also called on the, Federal Government, National Assembly and the Judiciary to amend the constitution inorder to create role for the traditional institution.
He noted that as custodians of the institution, traditional rulers have been instrumental to peaceful coexistence, educational and agricultural development as well existing peaceful relations between fulanis and farmers.
” The traditional institution and rulers are the custodians of societal peace, unity and development. They deserve a constitutional role in nation building”, the monarch pointed out.
In the same vein, he warned herdsmen against encroaching farmlands to avoid the breach of the peace and wanton destruction and killings.
” I am also appealing to farmers to desist from planting crops on cattle routes”, he stressed.
Similarly, Yakubu called on security agencies and personnel to take urgent steps to secure the nation’s boarders through which insurgents from neighbouring countries find their way to cause lost of lives and property of innocent Nigerians.
According the monarch who eulogised the newly turbanned ‘Sardaunan Dundaye ‘ Labaran Dundaye noted that the title holder had brought fame and made Dundaye town known too the outside world through a number of positive contributions to its development.
” He influenced the supply of electricity to the town, asphalting of the road linking Dundaye with neighbouring towns and villages, single handedly built a primary school as well personally secured admission and sponsored a number of students for studies in higher institutions of learning.
Shortly after he was ushered in, the ‘Sardaunan Dundaye’ Labaran Lumo Dundaye who was dressed in a while traditional regalia expressed gratitude too God and for those who stood by him for the success of the ceremony while attributing the honour and upliftment as a challenge to further dedicate himself to service for humanity in all respects.
He said” to whom much is given, much is expected. I will not relent in my efforts and commitment to serve humanity within the strength of my ability”, he assured.
Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko were represented by the State Head of Service, Dr Buhari Bello Kware and Commissioner for Social Welfare, Alhaji Ahmed Baraden Wamakko respectively.
Also represented was by a powerful delegation was the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
Also in attendance were members of the National and State Assemblies, Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, traditional rulers from within and neighbouring countries, members of the business community, Council chairmen, top politicians in the state, youths and women organistions, professional colleagues in the media among other personalities from far and near that witnessed the epoch making ceremonies which also saw over 40 other titles confered on deserving individuals by the monarch.
