Senate President Godswill Akpabio has directed the Senate to reconvene for an emergency plenary session on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

The directive was issued in a formal notice signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo, which instructed all lawmakers to report to the National Assembly complex by 12 noon.
While the official notice did not explicitly state the agenda for the meeting, the sudden recall comes on the heels of intense national debate following the third reading and passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
Public and legislative discourse has centered on the controversial rejection of a clause that would have mandated the real-time electronic transmission of election results.
The Senate had previously adjourned plenary for two weeks to allow for budget defense sessions, but the mounting pressure from civil society groups and the need to finalize legislative proceedings on the Electoral Bill appear to have prompted this urgent session.
