SOKAPU Women Wing call for peaceful local government election in Kaduna

Southern Kaduna People’s Union, SOKAPU, Women Wing, have called on Kaduna State government to evolve all necessary measures towards ensuring a free, fair and credible local government election on Saturday.

Addressing newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday, the Women Wing national coordinator, Mrs Catherine Amangs, lamented that enough bloodshed have taken place in the state leaving women and children as vulnerable.

She explained, “We have had enough bloodshed in all parts of the state ranging from herdsmen/farmers clashes leaving many people especially women and children being at the receiving end.

“We have also had enough bloodshed through the activities of bandits in different parts of the state leading to the loss of lives and property worth millions of naira with no arrest made of all these unfortunate incidents.”

She called on all eligible voters to ensure they vote for only credible candidates irrespective of political or religious affiliations that would give transparent, credible and representativeness in their leadership.

“We called on the citizens of Kaduna State to avoid any form of violence because election is not violent, war or hatred but a means to express our right to elect leaders in a modern and civilized manner,” she observed.

She appealed to KADSIECOM to ensure transparency before, during and after the entire exercise to respect the views of the electorate, adding, “It is only when the wishes of the electorate are translated in the result sheets at the various collection centers that we will say election has taken place.

“Election materials should be distributed to all the polling units in all the 23 local government areas at the right time with adequate security agents to ensure orderliness and peaceful conduct without anything that will disrupt the existing fragile peace that we are enjoying.

“We join governor Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai and the good people of Kaduna State in wishing us a peaceful local government election devoid of any problem but a stepping stone of ushering all Nigerians into 2019 general elections.”
