The Sokoto State Government has dismissed reports claiming Governor Ahmed Aliyu accompanied Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to visit detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Custodial Centre.
In a statement issued yesterday by the Governor’s spokesman, Abubakar Bawa, the government described the reports as misleading, clarifying that Governor Aliyu was not in the country when the visit occurred.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Ahmed Aliyu was in the Holy Land performing Lesser Hajj as of 30th November 2025, at the time Dr. Otti privately visited Sokoto State,” the statement said.
According to the government, Dr. Otti was received at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport by selected commissioners and special advisers, who also led him to the Government House for the customary courtesies accorded to visiting state executives.
The government reiterated that Sokoto people are known for their hospitality and that the governor remains committed to peace, national unity, and respect for constituted authority.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Executive Council has approved N1.66 billion for the renovation of six General Hospitals across the state. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Wurno, announced the approval while briefing journalists after the council meeting.
The hospitals and their project allocations include:
- Yabo General Hospital – N290.1m
- Shagari General Hospital – N382.4m
- Sabon Birni General Hospital – N237.1m
- Tangaza General Hospital – N272.2m
- Goronyo General Hospital – N291.3m
- WCWC Hospital, Sokoto – N188m
Dr. Wurno also revealed that the government approved the procurement of HIV/AIDS testing kits and consumables worth N100.07 million, following the withdrawal of some health programme support by the United States government. He said the intervention would sustain ongoing HIV/AIDS treatment in the state.
Additional approvals highlighted by the Commissioners for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abubakar Zayyana, and Information, Sambo Bello Danchadi, include:
- State Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (2026): N702.55bn
- Procurement of laptops and computers for SUBEB: N72.6m

- Drainage construction from Zagga to Jaredi Road: N122.7m
- Concrete drainage along Orthopaedic Hospital Wamakko: N216.6m
- Upgrade and repairs of the Waziri Junaidu History and Culture Bureau: N287.5m
Earlier, while declaring open the 15th regular Council meeting for 2025, Governor Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing projects that will accelerate socio-economic development across the state. He commended council members for their contributions and thanked residents for their support and prayers.
