Sokoto police nab suspect in possession of bulk PVCs, decorate 7 officers

By Suleiman Adamu, Sokoto

In its bid to actively show commitment to ensuring free, fair and credible polls by INEC in the state, the Sokoto state police command said it has arrested one Nasiru Idris in possession of bulk permanent voters cards (PVCs).

The suspect who is from Sabon Birni local government was arrested on October 10th, 2022 by men of the command’s police detachment.

Briefing newsmen Thursday , the state Police Commissioner, Muhammed Usaini Gumel said the suspect was painstakingly arrested upon credible intelligence and was found in his possession 101 PVCs during investigation

Gumel explained that the suspect could not give proper account of the voters cards in his possession.

” It is envisaged that owners of these cards are not only from Sabon Birni LGA where he was arrested but could be from other parts of the state as the police are yet to trace the rightful owners”, he said.

However, Gumel sought the active support of the media to urgently assist in reaching out to the public so that those whose PVCs were either missing or misplaced could come to the Sokoto State Police Headquarters to check the names on display at the information bulletin board for claims.

Similarly , while emphasising the need for media outlets in the state to further inform the public on the intention of the police command to return all unclaimed PVCs after one month from the date of this media briefing, to INEC for further necessary action Gumel added” their proofs and testimonies will further avail the Police Command with more evidence to prosecute the suspect.”

Meanwhile, the command also took space to announce the promotion and decoration of 7 of its senior officers to various ranks in the service while four others: DSP Halidu Malam OC Provost,
DSP Ibrahim Ladan DCO Arkilla, DSP Maidawa Atto 2ic Achida and ASP Ibrahim Salihu had been retired after 35 years of selfless service with effect fr November 16, 2022.
