Sokoto: Robbery gang carts N5m from rtd Naval Capt, police trail perpetrators

The Sokoto state  command of the Nigeria Police is in the trail of fleeing suspected gang of armed robbers for allegedly carting the sum of N5 million belonging to a retired Naval Captain, Abubakar El- Yakubu.

The command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammad A.Sadiq in a release issued Thursday afternoon said the police swung into action following information received from the DPO, Sokoto Central Division, CSP Mainasara Maruay about 1130hrs.

According to the command image maker said one Navy Captain Abubakar El- Yakubu of Argungu town in Kebbi state withdrew the sum of N5 million from FBN main branch along Kano road , Sokoto and kept in the trunk of his Peugeot 406 car.

The retired Navy Captain who is now a school contractor and newspaper distributor is said to have proceeded  with the money to Sahara Area in Sokoto to drop unsold copies of newspaper to collect new supply, a routine he said he carries out every Thursday of he week but where unknown to him, some hoodlums were on his trail in a yellow Toyota Corolla’S’ brand model with three occupants according to the release.

” While he was in the office of his business partner to sort out things, the hoodlums shot at his driver, , one Sama’ ila Isah of the same address on his left leg, though not fatal and carted away the money.

” The injured driver was then rushed to the Sokoto specialists hospital by security operatives upon receipt of  a distress call where he was treated and discharged”, ASP Sadiq said in he release.

The PPRO however, said efforts were being made to track down the fleeing perpetrators for possible prosecution while assuring that further development on the incident would be communicated appropriately
