No fewer than 1,473 graduands from across three Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Education and Sciences will on Saturday be awarded various Bachelor’s Degrees at the combined convocation ceremony of the Sokoto State University, Sokoto.
Also for award of the university’s Honorary Degree of letters are three eminent personalities which include Chancellor of the University and Emir of Dutse, Alhaji (Dr) Nuhu Muhammadu Sanusi.
A post humours award to it’s pioneer Pro- Chancellor, late Umaru Ali Shinkafi and the MD/CEO of BUA Group of Companies, Abdulsamad Isiyaka Rabiu.
The combine ceremony will be preceded by a pre-convocation lecture to be delivered on Friday by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Muhammad Sani Dangoggo who disclosed at a pre- convocation briefing Tuesday in Sokoto said the combine ceremony is for 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19 sessions .
According to Dangoggo, 36 of the graduating students excelled with first class.
” A total of 231 graduands are for 2016/17; 541 for 2017/18 and 701 for 2018/19 respectively.
” We have 529 second class upper students, 894 second class lower and 14 obtained third class”, he said.
While reeling out the statistics of the graduating g students according to their faculties, the Vice Chancellor said the university began academic activities in 2013/2014 session with undergraduate students strength of 774.
However, Prof. Dangoggo said in addition to its faculties, the university has three functional research centres and supporting units ; Centres for study of Sokoto caliphate , Mathematical sciences, Entrepreneurial Research and Development, Academic Planning unit, SIWES unit among others.
To further promote academic excellence, the Vice Chancellor said the institution has a standard modern library facility with a sitting of 1610 users and 21,431 collections .
He however disclosed that a novelty football match between academic and non academic staff team will be featured after which a pre-convocation dinner will take place as part of the few activities lined up for the entire ceremony to be climaxed on Saturday .
