Sokoto state government says it has expended over spent three billion Naira on scholarship from 2015 to date.
Hon. Altine Shehu Kajiji , the Executive Chairman, Sokoto State Scholarship Board disclosed to reporters in Sokoto.
According to Kajiji, the money were spent in paying tuition fees, accommodation, feeding and pocket money to over 400 indigenous students studying abroad.
He said, part of the money was used to settle registration fees and allowances of 18,000 local students.
Kajiji while explaining further shortly after addressing 31 students billed for Sudan to study Medicine and their parents, assured the students that they would lack anything during their study period.
He said the state government was working towards securing scholarship for 200 students from some universities in China.
He explained that his meeting with the students and their parents was to intimate them on what is expected from them during their stay in Sudan and the commitment of the state to ensure their success.
Some of the parents who spoke expressed appreciation to the state government for chosen their children for the training.
They also commended Governor Tambuwal and the Executive Chairman, for ensuring that the beneficiaries are selected on merit without any political interference
