A decisive goal scored in the second period of extra time secured Spain’s second World Cup title, 16 years after their maiden triumph in South Africa in 2010.

Argentina’s defense fought hard throughout the match. Still, their task became significantly more difficult in stoppage time of regular time when a midfielder was sent off following a second yellow card.

Reduced to 10 men, Argentina struggled to cope with Spain’s relentless possession throughout the extra periods.

The breakthrough finally arrived when a brilliant assist set up the winning strike, sending Spain into raptures and ending Argentina’s reign at the pinnacle of global football.
