A suspect arrested over the theft of cash belonging to members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons has been sentenced to six months in prison.

The incident occurred at the team’s camp hotel in Casablanca shortly before their departure to Rabat for their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Group C opener.
Midfielder Esther Okoronkwo had exposed the theft on social media, revealing that over $1,000 was stolen from her wallet and those of teammates Chiamaka Nnadozie, Michelle Alozie, and team captain Rasheedat Ajibade. Okoronkwo also voiced frustration over the hotel management’s handling of the situation.
Her public complaints sparked widespread online harassment and racist abuse from some Moroccan social media users.
In a statement on Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) strongly condemned the online abuse directed at the player.
The NFF confirmed that local law enforcement had apprehended the suspect, who confessed to the crime, returned all stolen funds, and was subsequently jailed.
